This Soho Loft Blends Masculine With Feminine: Get The Look

All, HOME TOURS, INSPIRATION & TRENDS 27 Aug 2018 Rachael OWT

It can be hard to balance a masculine interior look without it looking like a testosterone heavy bachelor pad. If you like edgier interiors there’s a knack to softening and styling to get the look right. This house tour proves it’s totally possible to be both masculine and feminine, without being too much of either.

Former creative director of J.Crew, Jenna Lyons resides in her newly redesigned apartment in SoHo, New York. It’s a 3,500-square-foot loft within a 19th-century cast-iron building. No surprises at all, it is jaw droppingly beautiful. You’d expect nothing less from the style arbiter. The loft blends masculine and feminine perfectly which is what we most love about it. With interiors there should be no rules, and this apartment plays with colour, texture and art in an effortless way.

The Living Room

A vintage Milo Baughman sofa is covered in Pierre Frey velvet, setting the tone of the room. There is such a blend of styles here from eclectic modernism and Parisian chic, to modern glamour, proving that you don’t just have to settle on one look. The textured Beni Ourain rugs add warmth to the herringbone parquet floors. This living room is a lesson in balancing colour, and being a touch feminine without being too pretty.

This right here is how to achieve a masculine interior look without it looking like the bachelor pad of a young professional. The oak-panelled walls are glamourised with an antique crystal chandelier, softened by the caramel sable fur. Doesn’t it feel opulent but effortless at the same time? Crittall doors are the perfect way to divide a room without blocking out light and design, I mean who would want to hide this amazing bathroom?

The Marbled Bathroom

Oh dear lord. Marble lovers, look away now to avoid life envy. The bathroom is designed with a Breccia Capraia marble-clad tub and a vanity supported by bronze legs custom designed and by the jeweler Philip Crangi. The contrasting dark walls help the white marble to pop.

The Brass Kitchen

Materials are at the heart of the kitchen with a custom made brass counter and an island topped by a three-inch-thick honed marble imported from California. The show stopping piece has to be the midcentury Venini light fixture that hangs over the island. It’s made of hundreds of Murano glass polyhedrons. The kitchen was joint designed by Lyons and designer, Gray davis. The walls feature the same milky grey as the living area which sits in front of the sumptuous pink velvet sofa.
