Interview With: Sarah Gibson of Room For Tuesday
If you haven’t noticed already, OWT is hugely inspired by US interiors and I was thrilled to have Sarah Gibson join our fabulous Stylist Picks. Sarah founded her blog Room For Tuesday in 2014, and has since been featured in Elle Decor, Domino, HGTV and more. One look at Sarah’s blog and you’ll see why this impressive list of mags have flocked to her. The blog is so swoonworthy you’ll get lost in the posts. She shares her interior design and styling in her own home in Utah, as well as her client projects. I absolutely adore her style and photography.
I’ve introduced these interviews so we can learn a thing or two from the experts and this chat with Sarah is packed full of top tips and inspiration for your home.
Let’s hear more from the talented lady herself:
HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN IN THE INTERIORS INDUSTRY?
I’m actually pretty new to the industry… I became serious about interiors as a career only 4 years ago.
WHAT’S YOUR SIGNATURE STYLE?
That’s a tough one! I like to combine lots of styles for an eclectic / vintage mix, so it’s hard to define a specific aesthetic, but I will say I my signature color is green.
WHAT’S YOUR GO TO TIP FOR INTERIOR NOVICES?
Keep learning! I’m all about attending webinars, seminars, design conferences, or markets. If I learn something new every single day, I’m doing pretty well. It really helps me grow as a designer.
WHAT’S YOUR FAVE INTERIOR TRICK/TIP YOU USE ON PROJECTS OR IN YOUR OWN HOME?
Millwork! You can turn any ordinary house into something beautiful with architectural features like trim and mouldings. It’s really key in making a room feel unique and anything but average.
WHAT ARE YOU WORKING ON AT THE MOMENT?
I just wrapped up a clients living room that turned out beautifully, and dove right into my first commercial project. I’m in the middle of designing offices, a conference room, reception area, and engineering studio for a local business. It’s definitely outside of my comfort zone and I’m solving entirely different challenges.
WHO / WHAT IS YOUR BIGGEST INSPIRATION?
I get a lot of inspiration from the past. There’s nothing I love more than looking back at old photos and figuring out how to implement designs of decades past in a modern way.
DO YOU HAVE ANY TREND PREDICTIONS?
I’m guessing we’ll begin to see a shift from minimalism to maximalism. I’m loving the resurgence of traditional and classic decor.
WHICH ROOM IS YOUR FAVE IN YOUR HOME?
Currently my living room. My husband and I have a gorgeous fireplace, built-ins that I restyle almost weekly, and we spend a good amount of time lounging on our comfy sofa. We’re in the middle of our kitchen renovation, so I have a feeling once that’s complete it will quickly become my new favorite space.
IF YOU COULD PICK ONE ITEM TO HAVE RIGHT NOW FROM THE OWT SHOP WHAT WOULD IT BE?
