Next up in our Stylist Picks interview is Emma Jane Palin. EJP is a creative lifestyle blogger and if you haven’t come across her blog before then she’s one to get on your radar. (You’ll get lost in her dreamy Instagram).
Last year Emma won The Amara Best Colour Inspiration blog Award and you’ll see why when you have a browse through her work. Sometimes things can get a bit samey in the interiors world, and Emma Jane Palin helps to shake it up a bit with her fresh style, attitude to colour and bohemian edge. Exactly the reason why I chose her to be a stylist on OWT. Get her look by shopping her picks here.
Emma’s interior mantra is a nice reminder to be inspired by the world around you;
Let’s get some top tips:
HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN IN THE INTERIORS INDUSTRY?
I’ve worked in the industry for nearly three years now – working in design PR and creative strategy. I set up my blog in July 2015 and the two intertwine perfectly – I’m always on top of trends and I can help with everything from shooting to social media, with my own accounts acting as a portfolio.
WHAT’S YOUR SIGNATURE STYLE?
I have quite an eclectic sense of style which can really vary as I have an appreciation for anything with thoughtful design. I veer towards pieces that show personality and am happy to let the interior accessories do the talking in a white room!
WHAT’S YOUR GO TO TIP FOR INTERIOR NOVICES?
To get used to an area before you buy. Many people get excited when they’re moving house and start decking it out with new furniture and homeware. There will always be something that doesn’t fit how you imagined it to. I’d also say that being bold is worth it – staying safe is just boring.
WHAT’S YOUR FAVE INTERIOR TRICK/TIP YOU USE ON PROJECTS OR IN YOUR OWN HOME?
Command Strips! I hang a lot of art and as we’re in rented we don’t really want to be having to fix the walls. Command strips are super strong and don’t mark the walls – perfect!
WHAT ARE YOU WORKING ON AT THE MOMENT?
I’m currently working on my strategy for 2018 and how I’m going to manage my many hustles. I hope to grow the styling side of my business while also ensuring that I’m creating unique content for all my readers. It can be tough to get the balance between working four days a week in PR, styling and freelance writing as well as writing a blog.
WHO/ WHAT IS YOUR BIGGEST INSPIRATION?
My biggest inspiration is the world around me. Colours in the wild and natural textures. My Instagram account is documentation for all that inspires me and helps me to create content.
DO YOU HAVE ANY TREND PREDICTIONS FOR THIS YEAR?
I think that the seventies are going to continue to be a massive influence on design. Patterns and panelling and lots of vivid colours. For me, it’s a really exciting time.
WHICH IS YOUR FAVE ROOM IN YOUR HOME?
My bathroom. It might be small but it’s got a roll-top bath, brass detailing and amazing monochrome details on the tiles and flooring. It’s my area for relaxation for sure.
